Genskær i Havet

Genskær i Havet stands as my inaugural composition for traditional acoustic instruments. The piece is scored written for violin, viola, cello, double bass and knives with different blade sizes.

The piece was written for an open call by NyMusikk komponistgruppe, a Norwegian group of upcoming composers I was member of while living in Norway. The call beckoned for a composition tailored to the sinfonietta Insimul.

Genskær i Havet is Danish for ‘reflections in the ocean’ and resemble that harsh bright reflection of the sun upon the ocean’s surface during the day.

Musicians from Insimul are:

Violin + knife: Una Maja Vagner

Viola + knife: Zane Kalnina

Cello + knife: Benedicte Alsveit Aarsland

Bass + knife: Ivan Zavgorodniy
