Standing Wave
Standing wave is a large-scale sculpture made in collaboration with astrophysicist Jo Verwohlt. It was part of our exhibition Interference in Nikolaj Kunsthal February-May 2023.
The Standing Wave sculpture is made from acrylic and interference foil, a material that induces color shifts based on the observer's positioning relative to the artwork. This dynamic attribute results in a mutable coloration as the audience moves around the sculpture.
Interference is a scientific term that describes what happens when different waves interact and creates zones of constructiove and destructive patterns. In the case of white light containing a full spectrum of wavelengths this reveals distinct colors at different positions.
